Sneezing???? Favourites??????

Okay so I had a cold a week-ish ago and I decided it would be a good idea to write a blog post about sneezing. As soon as I started writing it I forgot everything I was going to say and ended up with this before I gave up:

"I currently have a cold so I've been sneezing a lot. It's made me think about sneezing way more than the average person should. I've thought about"

Yep. I stopped halfway through a sentence. Nice one me. I think I was gonna write about the science of sneezing or something???? idek. But I thought you might want to see that.

Although my cold is now gone I've been blessed instead with a cough. Yay.

I don't really have a subject for this blog post but I've been telling myself that I need to write and not worry about having a specific idea or coming out with a completely 100% perfect amazingly well written blog post so I'm just gonna have a little ramble about things I've liked recently.

The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire by Dan Howell and Phil Lester.
I got this book the day it came out, I'd had it pre-ordered and as soon as I got home, I sat down and read the entire thing. It's been hard for me to sit down and be able to focus on a book for a while, so me reading this in one sitting is something. Things I loved about this book were just how creative it was, how beautiful every page was and how every single page interested me. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book and it was so clear how much effort had gone into it and how hard Dan and Phil had worked on it. I'd definitely recommend getting it if you don't have it already. I got it on Amazon for £8 and it was worth every penny.

The song Stitches by Shawn Mendes.
Am I late on this bus??? I feel like I am but I've just listened to this song for the first time all the way through a few days ago and I've played it so many times since. I love the tune, I love the lyrics and it's just such a good song to sing along to. Also it's not too loud so I can focus on doing things such as writing this blog post while listening to it which is very good. I definitely want to listen to more music by him.

Autumn.
Just generally autumn. I know this is something basically everyone is saying but I'm honestly enjoying being slightly cold and I love chilly mornings. Also the leaves on the ground are just so beautiful I love jumping on every leaf I see. If you didn't see my blog post on Autumn you can see it here ;)

Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer.
I am a MASSIVE fan of Animal Crossing and have been since I first played Wild World when I was younger. As I mentioned in my Autumn post, I wanted to get back into playing Animal Crossing New Leaf for Autumn and I actually did! And then Happy Home Designer came out and I got completely distracted. Nice job, Nintendo, distracting me from your game with your game. Just take my money. But honestly, I really enjoy this game every time I play it. I don't play it every day as I feel like it would get very boring if I overplayed it so I've been spacing out when I play on it which means I enjoy every house and every building I design. If you enjoyed interior design in the other games I think you'll like this game too!

And that's basically everything I've enjoyed recently. I hope you enjoyed this random little kind of favourites blog post in the middle of the month with a strange bit about sneezing at the start. And I hope you're enjoying Autumn! Even if you're not a big Autumn fan, I hope you're still enjoying your time being alive.

Goodbye

:)

Hello Autumn

Autumn is coming (or is here I'm not entirely sure when it actually starts oops) and I have never been more happy about anything. I felt like Summer just dragged on so much and I hated being moist all the time. I love Autumn, it and Winter are my two favourite seasons as they hold so many things I love (the cold, Halloween, Christmas, hot chocolates, Autumn and Winter-y candles and if we're very lucky in England then some snow).

I love how Autumn looks - everything just looks so lovely and crisp and beautiful. I love the colours and I love being able to throw on a jumper and not melt because, although I love t-shirts and wear them all year around, I am a sucker for a good jumper. I've been listening to my Autumn/Winter songs playlist since early August because I've just been so excited (the 'Sweater Weather' Spotify Sessions version thing is amazing I can't not feel all nice and cozy when I listen to it). I've even given my blog a little Autumn makeover because I just love how everything looks in Autumn.

I actually really like being cold, I love having an excuse to make a hot chocolate or a cup of tea (pear and apple tea from lidl with two and a half sugars - yes that's a lot and also very specific but trust me - is perfect I am obsessed with it) and grab a blanket or a hoodie and just relax. I can't relax in Summer, it's too hot and sticky and I live in constant fear of bugs and spiders.

Animal Crossing always looks really beautiful in Autumn as well. I really need to get back into playing that game.

Also I really want to start posting more blog posts. I worry too much about what I post and feel like it has to have some kind of meaning or purpose to it but in reality, this is my blog and I should be able to post whatever I feel like posting without worrying.

Goodbye

:)

Back to School: Raising your hand in class

It is not the end of the world if you feel as if you can't put your hand up to answer a question in class.

I feel like a lot of people (including me) really struggle with one particular thing in school: putting your hand up to answer a question or contribute to a discussion.

The fear of getting it wrong, of mucking it up and being laughed at or just not wanting to.

It is okay.

Teachers act like it's the end of the world if you're a student who doesn't like to answer questions in class but it really isn't. Every single parents' evening almost all of my teachers say "she's a really good student but it would be great if she could put her hand up more." every. single. time.

Teachers that pick on students to answer questions are the worst. If they can't respect the fact that not everyone is confident enough to put their hand up then honestly I think they shouldn't teach. No-one should be forced to do anything. I suppose some teachers think it'll make us more confident if they pick on us to answer a question but personally I feel like every time I'm picked on to answer a question my confidence gets knocked a little more, it makes me want to raise my hand less and hide more.

You've probably heard all the advice in regards to putting your hand up about trying to set goals to do it maybe once a day or something or not worry about making mistakes because it means you learn so I'm not going to repeat all that but I will say that if you feel like you can put your hand up and contribute to a discussion or answer a question then it is great that you have enough confidence to do that and please do it, even if it is just once, but the world isn't going to end if you don't raise your hand and you don't answer questions, you will still be able to have a life after school.

One of my teachers said that I'd need to raise my hand more to get a better grade in a class but I rarely (if ever I can't even remember) raise my hand in that class and don't contribute to class discussions and I am doing just fine because your classwork can make up for your lack of contribution in discussions.

Just remember: you're fine. If you feel like you can't raise your hand, that is fine. If you feel like you can, that is also fine.

And teachers: don't pick on students that you know don't like to answer questions to do so because it is not going to magically make them a super-confident person that is all of a sudden fine with raising their hand. If they're anything like me, it'll shake them up for the rest of the lesson and make them not want to do any work any more. You should respect the fact that not everyone wants to put their hand up.

Just breathe. You're doing great, I promise you.

Goodbye

May Favourites

Well June came out of nowhere didn't it?

Okay but seriously where did May go it was literally Christmas yesterday.

A month has passed so I was like what the heck let's do a favourites blog post because I liked some things and I love favourites because I love being nosey so why not?

TV

On twitter some people have been talking about this show called 'The Fosters' for a while and they were all like "EVERYONE WATCH IT IT'S THE BEST SHOW EVER" and OH MY GOD IT IS AMAZING!!! I watched the two seasons that are currently out over half term and holy crap it is definitely one of my favourite shows. The characters and the storylines and the shippings (jonnor amirite) are just amazing and even the characters that I absolutely can't stand I'm still just so intrigued by and I want to know what happens to them all but there's also characters I love to pieces and I just want the best things to happen to them and I want to know what happens next and series 2 ended on a cliffhanger and series 3 starts in a few days and I AM SO EXCITED!!! (wow that was a long sentence okay) It also has actors like Jake T. Austin and Maia Mitchell that I grew up watching so it was great seeing them in such a different setting and I honestly love this show so much - you should definitely watch it if you haven't already.

Another TV show I have been loving is I think my favourite TV show ever: Community. I really struggle explaining storylines of anything to people so I can't really give you an overview but I promise you it is amazing and hilarious and emotional and just everything you want from a TV show and more. I've been watching it for a while and series 6 ended just the other day (that episode broke me, I was an emotional wreck just randomly crying throughout the evening because I am just so attached so the characters and I have no idea what's going to happen next to the show or anything) and I loved series 6 so much. I know the first 5 seasons are on English Netflix and maybe others I'm not sure but you can check it out on there and series 6 is on Yahoo screen so I would DEFINITELY recommend giving it a go if you're looking for a TV show where you will get really attached to the characters, the ships, the storylines and you just feel like everyone you're watching on screen is your friend.

Books

In English we've been given this reading list and told to read some books off of it to 'broaden our vocabulary' and I saw Animal Farm by George Orwell was on this list. I've read 1984 which is also by him (amazing read definitely read it if you can) and thought what the heck, I loved that so I'll give that a go as well. It was absolutely amazing and one of my favourite books of all time. From the 2 Orwell books I've read I know I love him and I want to read other books of him because they are honestly just so interesting and amazing. I've heard some people say Animal Farm is boring but I thought it was really freaking great so I would definitely recommend reading it if you can because once you get into it you can read it quite quickly, I read it in around 4 hours without stopping because I was just so immersed. Also the ending was my favourite thing ever and I genuinely laughed out loud at it because it just reminded me of the world we live in so much which might not actually be a good thing but that's just my sense of humour.

Music

Last month I really got into Panic! at the Disco and listened to so much of their music, new and old. I really enjoyed Pretty. Odd. after I found it in a charity shop for £1 and my favourites were Nine In The Afternoon, When the Day Met the Night and Pas De Cheval. If you've never listened to Panic! at the Disco before I'd say definitely say listen to them or if you've listened to some then listen to more because I love them a lot.

Also I am extremely excited for Muse's new album Drones which actually comes out the same day as The Fosters (although I can't watch that until the next day) so I have a lot to look forward to!

Food

This might seem really random but there are these new things called Chocolate and Vanilla Milkshake slices which are (as far as I know) a new Mr Kipling thing and they honestly taste better than they sound which is saying something because they sound glorious.

Aaaaaaand that's really all the favourites I can think of for this month! I hope you enjoyed this blog post as I haven't really written anything like this before but it was fun to write because...idk really I just enjoy writing about things I like I guess!

P.S. Yes I know I say 'definitely' and 'amazing' a lot I'm sorry I can't stop.

Goodbye

:)

Revision/Study Tips

**Disclaimer** These tips will not work for everyone as everyone revises (studies) in different ways and finds different techniques better than others etc etc. Also I'm not claiming my tips are the best because it's very likely that they're really not. Okay? Okay.

Tip 1: Have a tidy room/revision space

This might sound kinda random and like it has nothing at all to do with revising but seriously, if where you're working is tidy and clutter-free, it just makes you feel so much better working there and like you actually want to get stuff done. I tidied my room last weekend when I got so sick of it being messy and cluttered (it wasn't as boring as I thought it would be when I put on some music at the same time) and I've been able to work in there so much better and I've just felt so much more comfortable doing work in there. It may seem like a waste of time when you could be revising but just take a day to tidy and de-clutter your room/revision space and you might find you'll be able to work there much better afterwards. But also sometimes switch up where you revise else you're going to start to see that space as a negative space that you'll hate being in. What the hell, if it's sunny outside why not revise outside? Or you know, stay inside away from the Sun and the nasty bugs and wasps that'll annoy the heck out of you.

Tip 2: Make a revision timetable

And try to stick to it! I signed up to getrevising.co.uk a few weeks ago and made a revision timetable and at first I did actually stick to it and get quite a lot of revising done (surprisingly). I've kind of gone away from it recently but my science exams are really soon so I'm going to try and get back into the timetable because it really does help me.

Tip 3: Remove all distractions

Turn off your phone, laptop, iPad and any other electrical devices that may distract you and hide them somewhere, only allowing yourself to go near them in breaks. Remove anything else that might distract you (like books, music - although some people may find it better to work with music - etc.) and focus solely on your revision. Personally, I find any music with lyrics to be an extreme distraction to me but I find silence uncomfortable and distracting in itself so I like to play piano music quietly in the background (I really like Doug Hammer's album 'Solace').

Tip 4: Take regular breaks

And plan something fun to do in them and after your revision. Having something fun to look forward to will motivate you to finish your revision. I really like to make a playlist of YouTube videos and vlogs that I can watch in my breaks because then I won't start watching them before I revise and never start but I'll still get to watch them and look forward to them.

Tip 5: Have snacks/a drink ready

You're not going to be able to do anything if you're hungry and thirsty so either eat something before you start revising or get something ready that you can snack on when you're revising but always have a drink there. I would try to make it healthy and save the treats for breaks or when you've done well but I would be a hypocrite to tell you to eat healthily because I'm extremely fussy and I basically live off junk food.

Tip 6: Find a revision technique that you're comfortable with

Not everyone is going to revise in the same way. I like to make organised flashcards and notes with lots and lots of colour but other people may like reading aloud and listening to it back or being quizzed or something else entirely. I would recommend watching this video from Emma Blackery that talks about different types of learners and what revision techniques the different types of learners may find best. Once you have a rough idea of what type of learner(s) you are, you could do some more research into it and find a revision technique that works best for you. There's no point in revising in a way you find doesn't help you at all.

Tip 7: Start

Just do it. Start right now. Well, after you've finished reading this and preparing. I know you're procrastinating, I procrastinate loads and I find the best way for me to start is, when I'm thinking about how much I need to revise and how much I really should start, I just get up and start. It's the only way I can bring myself to revise because it's really not fun and I am one of those people that procrastinates with basically everything. To be honest, I was going to write this blog post about two weeks ago but I kept putting it off...oops.

I hope that at least a few of these tips have helped at least one person in some way or another and that you enjoyed this blog post! It's kinda a different style to my last two but I've still enjoyed writing it. I've probably forgotten some tip that I was gonna put on here but oh well I'm sure it'll be fine.

Goodbye

Dress To Impress

“I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do a photo-shoot, people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know that everyone wants a picture of me in a miniskirt. But that’s not me.” - Emma Watson

Dressing to impress isn’t an uncommon thing. People pick the clothes they buy and wear to impress other people every day, but the truth is, if the clothes you are wearing aren’t making you happy why wear them?

Some people may call the things I wear ‘weird’ because I don’t necessarily always wear clothes that, well, match. But if I want to wear a top with bottoms that ‘don’t go’, I’ll wear it anyway because I want to wear that top and those bottoms. I don’t pick my outfit based on the other things I’m wearing, I pick it based simply on if I want to wear it or not because that’s what makes me happy.

If people want to wear outfits that go perfectly together then you can do so because that’s what makes you happy.

If you want to wear an outfit that’s entirely black then do that because it makes you happy.

If you want to wear an outfit that has spots and stripes next to each other then wear that because it makes you happy.

If you want to wear the slouchiest hoodie and biggest jogging bottoms you own then wear them because that is what makes you happy.

If you want to wear trainers (sneakers) with a dress then do that because that is what makes you happy.

Anything you want to wear, you can wear and should be able to wear without the fear of other people telling you that what you’re wearing is wrong. You can’t wear anything that is wrong because if it is making you happy then it is right.

To me, happiness is the most important thing. All I want when I’m older is to be happy and if that means wearing a hat in the shape of a zebra with a frilly, layered dress and Pikachu slippers then that is what I will do.

I really wish we lived in a world where everyone wore what they wanted and it had absolutely nothing to do with what the latest ‘trends’ are or what their friends were wearing.

I’m not saying that you “can’t get inspiration from what other people are wearing” and “you must only wear things different to everyone else” because if you like a top that Zoella is wearing in her latest video there is nothing wrong with you wearing that because it makes you happy. If people say you’re “copying Zoella” then ignore them because you are creating your own style that makes you happy. Odds are someone is going to like the same style of clothes as you.

You might make a few mistakes a wear some things that you deeply regret wearing in the future but, hey, you’re creating your own style. You’re bound to make some mistakes.

The point I’m trying to make is: don’t dress to impress other people. Dress to impress yourself.

“You’re perfect the way you are.” - Perfect, Emma Blackery

Laughter

Laugh - verb - "make the spontaneous sounds and movements of the face and body that are instinctive expressions of lively amusement and sometimes also of derision."

We all laugh. It's just a thing we do in life when something is funny. Right? Not always.

Sometimes we laugh when we know we've said something that has hurt someone, so we laugh and pretend it was a joke.

Sometimes we laugh when we're in pain. When we've fallen over and it hurts but we laugh and pretend we're fine so we don't make a fuss.

Sometimes we laugh when we hurt emotionally. To hide the pain so no-one knows that we're actually sad.

Sometimes we laugh even when nothing is funny. When someone makes a bad joke but we don't want to make them feel bad so we laugh and pretend it was hilarious.

Sometimes we laugh when someone dies in a movie and all our friends are bawling their eyes out.

The other week, one of my friends got frustrated and started punching their lunch box when it wouldn't fit in their bag but she started laughing afterwards to cover up that she was feeling (well, I think she may have been feeling) stressed or angry, and at that moment she let some of the anger out but laughed it off to hide it.

We don't only laugh when something is funny. We use laughter as a mask to hide our true emotions. We laugh to make people feel better or when we're scared. I know I laugh when someone is shouting at me or telling me off as I hate people telling me off - it terrifies me. It doesn't help the situation when I laugh, of course, but I can't help it.

Of course, we still laugh when things are funny, but, next time someone laughs, maybe we should question if they're laughing because something is funny or for some other reason.

"I can fake a smile. I can force a laugh." - human, Christina Perri

5 Questions

Hi!

My name is Yellow (not my real name, but my blogging name), and today I have decided to blog!

I thought my first blog post should probably be about me, telling you something about me, but I really didn't know what to write. So instead, after looking at loads of websites about what you should include in your first blog, I decided to create and answer 5 questions to keep this more organised so I don't forget anything!

1. Who are you?
I'm Yellow! Yellow is my favourite colour and I thought it had a nice ring to it in a blog name. You might not think so though, but I like it!

2. Why are you blogging?
Because I want to, to be honest! I feel like everyone has their own opinions that should be voiced, and I feel like mine could best be shared through a blog.

3. What will you be blogging about?
Anything and everything, probably! From opinions, to things I like, to things I enjoy. Maybe pictures I've taken, places I've been or things I've seen. Who knows? I guess we'll have to wait and see what'll come ;)

4. How often will you post blogs?
I don't think I want to set any sort of schedule else I'll just feel pressured and am less likely to ever post! I may never even post again after this, I really don't know what's going to happen with this blog.

5. What things do you enjoy?
I enjoy many things. From games to books to movies. All different genres of music and artists. All sorts of different movies and books and games, too! I don't really think I fit in to any specific category, I'm just kind of me and I enjoy the things I enjoy. But I guess everyone's like that, really. Hey, maybe I'll do some kind of post on my favourite books/movies/music/games in the future? And you can also have a look on my complete profile where I listed some more specific things I like to get a better idea since I think I would be typing for ages if I wrote down everything I liked!

Well those are the 5 questions I'm going to answer for my first blog! If you read this, then thank you! And I know I'm probably not very good at this whole blogging thing yet, so if you have any advice or constructive criticism, then feel free to tell me! But for now, I'll see you in the next blog!

Thank you, goodbye!

:)
